What you need to make beanless beef chili
- Ground beef: One pound of grass-fed ground beef. You could also use ground turkey or chicken.
- Onion: One large onion adds body and flavour.
- Peppers: I recommend a mix of bell and poblano peppers. For the lowest carb option, choose green bell pepper over red, orange, or yellow.
- Crushed tomatoes: I like the thickness and consistency crushed tomatoes bring to this chili, but you could also use a combination of crushed and diced tomatoes (14oz of each).
- Broth: For this beef chili I like to use beef broth, but any broth will work here.
- Worcestershire: Brings richness and salty umami flavour.
- Spices + seasonings: A blend of chili powder, paprika, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, dried oregano, cayenne pepper, and salt.
Don’t forget the toppings! Add your favourite toppings like shredded cheddar, sour cream, green onion, cilantro, and sliced jalapeño.

How to make no bean beef chili
In a dutch oven over medium-high heat, cook ground beef until browned. Remove the beef from the pan and drain off the fat. Into the dutch oven, drizzle a tablespoon olive oil. Add diced onion and peppers. Cook until softened. Add the ground beef back to the pan. Sprinkle the seasonings over top and stir until well incorporated. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, broth, and worcestershire. Bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, up to 2 hours.

Serve topped with shredded cheddar, sour cream, green onion, cilantro, and sliced jalapeño.

Is this chili keto-friendly?
No, this beanless chili is not keto-friendly with 23g protein, 24g fat, and 19g net carbs per serving (excluding any toppings).
To maintain a state of ketosis it’s recommended you limit your daily net carbs to 20-50g. With 19g net carbs per serving, this chili could quickly put you over your daily allowance. However, if your carb tolerance is on the higher end (closer to 50g net carbs per day than 20g) then it could fit into your daily keto meal plan, assuming the remainder of your net carb intake stays below 30g.
