How to cook frozen fries in an oven air fryer
- Preheat the oven to 400°F on the air fryer setting. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Arrange the frozen fries in a single layer on the parchment-lined baking sheets.
- Bake for 10-20 minutes, until hot and crispy, turning halfway. After 10 minutes, check the fries every few minutes as some will cook quicker than others. Tater tots will take an additional 5 minutes (about 25 minutes total).
How to make fry seasoning
Take your fries up a notch with this salty, spicy seasoning blend. Just a few common pantry ingredients make up this deliciously spicy seasoning salt. You’ll never have a bland fry at home again!
You’ll need:
- Salt: Adds tons of seasoning.
- Paprika: For that smoky, sweet pepper flavour.
- Onion powder: Brings zesty onion notes.
- Garlic powder: Adds a mellow garlic flavour.
- Celery salt: Adds an little extra earthy celery saltiness.
- Cayenne pepper: For some spicy chili heat.
Season your fries while they’re hot! For the salt and seasonings to really adhere to the fries, transfer hot fries straight from the oven into a large bowl, sprinkle with seasoning, and toss to coat.
How to make fry sauce
This sauce is based on the classic fry sauce combination of ketchup and mayonnaise with a few briny, salty, spicy additions. The result is a sweet, tangy sauce that resembles a lighter, smoother special burger sauce or Thousand Island dressing.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Mayonnaise: Provides a rich, creamy base.
- Ketchup: For that tangy, tomatoey sweetness.
- Pickle brine: Adds a sour, briny acidity.
- Worcestershire: Brings richness and salty umami flavour.
- Paprika: For a little smoky, sweet pepper flavour.
- Cayenne pepper: For just a hint of chili heat.
- Salt: A pinch of salt for seasoning.
To make the fry sauce, combine everything together in a bowl and stir to combine. If making ahead of time, store sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to use, up to 5 days.
How to plate a French fry board
Good serving board options include a large baking sheet, a large platter, or serving tray lined with parchment paper. Place the dips around the board then arrange the fries around them. You could group the fries together by type or scatter them around.
As we all know, fries are best served hot. So while they’re baking away I like to prepare my serving platter. This way, as soon as the fries are out of the oven and seasoned I can slide them onto the platter and serve them straight away.
Caution: HOT! You could use the baking sheet you cooked the fries on as your serving platter and place a kitchen towel or oven mitts with the tray to indicate that the tray is hot. However, I recommend transferring the fries to a cool baking tray so there’s no risk anyone burning themselves on a hot tray.

French Fry Snack Board
Ingredients
- 3-5 bags assorted frozen french fries (shoestring fries, waffle fries, curly fries, onion rings, tater tots, etc.)
Fry Seasoning
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon dried parsley
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Fry Sauce
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- ¾ cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon pickle brine
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 pinch salt
Instructions
- Make the seasoning salt and fry sauce. In a small bowl, add the seasoning ingredients and stir to combine. In a medium bowl, add the sauce ingredients and stir until smooth and combined.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F on the air fryer setting. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Arrange the assorted frozen fries in a single layer on the parchment-lined baking sheets. Distribute fries across the two baking sheets based on thickness (i.e. cook time). For example, onion rings, tater tots, wedges, and curly fries are thicker and will take longer to cook than shoestring or waffle fries.
- Bake for 10-20 minutes, until hot and crispy, turning halfway. After 10 minutes, check the fries every few minutes as some varieties will cook quicker than others. Tater tots will take an additional 5 minutes (about 25 minutes total).
- Meanwhile, transfer the fry sauce to a small dipping bowl and arrange (along with any other dips) on your serving platter.
- Once each type of fry is cooked, immediately transfer them to a large bowl. Sprinkle with seasoning salt and toss to coat. Transfer to the prepared serving platter. Serve while hot.
