IN THE FIRST OF OUR 'Meet the Maker' series, we introduce you to Sarah Deane - the creative brains behind Evermore London. Specialising in small batch candles and natural room sprays, the London based brand is in high demand with their feminine fragrances and organic ingredients.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
I’ve lived in East London for 8 years, moving down here after I finished university In Leeds. I’ve had a creative side since I was a child; I always had a keen interest in art and crafts throughout my education. I’ve worked in digital and social content throughout my career, it was in 2013 that I began to get the itch to do something a little bit more creative and I launched Evermore the following year.
What first motivated you to become a maker?
I had got to the point in my career where I needed to make some big decisions, did I want to keep climbing the ladder or make something of my own. My family run their own businesses so I have a slight entrepreneurial streak from them and I decided to make the jump. It’s been really exciting building a brand that I can call my own.
What does your making process involve?
The production of our candles is kept simple. Each is hand-poured in our East London studio in small batches. Our fragrances are also mixed and created in our studio. I’m a perfectionist, so each candle is personally checked by myself to make sure it’s looking perfect before it goes out into the big wide world!
Describe Evermore London in 3 words.
Feminine, adventurous, celestial.
Can you talk us through your typical work day?
A typical working day involves getting to my studio and first things first - switching the wax melter on. I go through emails in the morning and then check to see what online orders have come in. These get packed up for posting, and then I go through wholesale orders and wedding favour orders for the week.
Where do you find your inspiration?
A lot of the inspiration for Evermore comes from nature, trips that I’ve been on as well as astrology.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Kill them with kindness… basically always be nice and don’t retaliate.
Sunday – is it the start or the end to your week?
Definitely the end!
What’s next for Evermore London?
We have huge plans for 2019. I can’t say much more at the moment, but everything will be revealed early next year.
Describe your perfect Sunday.
My perfect Sunday would involve having no plans in the diary. I would go for a walk with a coffee with my husband and dog and spend the rest of the day relaxing at home, which seems to be a rarity these days!
