SINCE LEAVING LONDON and relocating to East Sussex with her husband, Lucinda Mitra has started family life in her first home, documenting the 'glow-up' under Instagram handle @nest_twenty_eight. Having described her style as 'an eclectic mix of rustic, scandi and industrial', Lucinda believes in keeping costs low without compromising on style, and completed 99% of the painting and decorating herself.

How would you describe your signature style?
I would describe it as a mix of rustic, industrial and monochrome with a bit of green and neutral tones thrown in too.

Where you find your interiors inspiration?
I find inspiration all around me, for example, some of the rural local pubs near to where we live, have amazing gallery walls and cosy corners to take inspiration from. Some of our friends also live in stunning homes that all have unique and original interior styles and ideas. It would be amiss of me to not mention good old Instagram too..!

What makes a house a home for you?
For me, it’s about ambience and thinking of one adjective you want to evoke when people walk into your home - one of my pet peeves is bright, overhead lighting, it’s amazing what a difference a selection of lamps around a room can make. It also must be cosy. This can be achieved through texture: cushions, throws and rugs are the best way to create an inviting and relaxing atmosphere.

Do you have a favourite home piece?
If I had to choose one, it would be my vintage chest in my living room. My parents bought it when they lived in Tanzania, and it now sits proudly in my living room. Not only does it hold fond childhood memories for me, it’s got amazing storage, and hides a multitude of wires from the TV!

Sunday – is it the start or the end to your week?
To me, it’s the start of the week, but the end of the weekend!

How often do you re-style your home?
Quite often, because I’m always creating content for my Instagram feed. I don’t tend to make many huge changes, just moving the odd candle, coffee table book or pot plant from room to room! I think it’s good to shift things about, as you create a sense of freshness, without having to buy anything new. It also allows you to really appreciate the things that you have, or rediscover things you’d forgotten about.

What’s your favourite way to unwind?
Curling up on my sofa with my husband, James, with good food, a glass of wine and a gripping film or Netflix series.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
To back myself.

What’s your favourite room in the home?
My favourite room is my living room, as it’s the hub of our home and a versatile space that serves many purposes: a playroom for Sienna, wild parties until the small hours for us and our friends, and cosy quiet evenings.

Describe your perfect Sunday.
It’s very cliché, but a nice country walk to blow the cobwebs away, rounded off with a lit fire in our local pub. If the weather is appalling, you can’t beat cooking a Sunday roast at home as a family.
