BEING A SUCCESSFUL lifestyle blogger, business owner, and freelance tanning expert; Jill McLean wears many hats. Based on the North Coast of Northern Ireland, Jill recently launched 'Glow Bar' in Coleraine - a collaborative, one-stop beauty salon with industry experts all under one roof. In Jill's pursuit of stillness and wellbeing, we talk how to unwind and where to find inspiration to create an inviting home.

How would you describe your signature style?
I have an eclectic style with a neutral colour palette and love mixing luxury pieces with ethnic and rustic finds.

Where do you find your interiors inspiration?
I am a huge fan of Sophie Paterson (@sophiepatersoninteriors). Her style and projects are incredible. I also take lots of inspiration when visiting restaurants and hotels. I really dissect what makes the spaces so luxurious and inviting, to see what aspects I can use at home. I love analysing the space to break it up into individual elements: from statement chandeliers, recessed lighting, mixing of colours and fabrics, to wall panelling and how they divide large spaces.

What makes a house a home for you?
The number one thing has to be family, which for me is my husband Chris and 2 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback Leo. In addition to that, a roaring fire and candles instantly make a house feel like a home for me. I light my Peat candle by Field Apothecary in the living room and my Black Spice & Cedar candle by This Works in the hallway. Bliss!

Do you have a favourite home piece?
I love every single piece in our home, from the wide plank oak flooring to my Andrew Martin velvet cushions, but my current favourite would have to be my home office chandelier; it’s a brushed gold finish with 15 hanging bulbs.

Sunday – is it the start or the end to your week?
The start to my week, although this has been a recent transition. I have realised the necessity to use Sunday to plan out the week ahead (being self employed this is a vital step for me), and then indulge in relaxation and family time after that!

How often do you re-style your home?
Like my wardrobe I tend to buy classic pieces I hope to love for a long time, so when it comes to flooring and long term decisions in the home I think it’s important to choose classic over trend driven styles. In terms of accessorising and moving things around through I love to re-style little areas of the house monthly. Although, we are only half way through decorating our home so I think this is natural until it all falls into place and feels ‘finished’.

What's your favourite way to unwind?
I use yoga in the morning to unwind my mind and body and set my intentions for the day or week ahead. If I need to unwind in the evening, I would choose a glass of merlot, a chunky knit jumper and an audiobook.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
The importance of quality over quantity. Invest in your space and it will be an investment in your lifestyle as each piece will truly bring you happiness daily.

What’s your favourite room in the home?
Our kitchen. It took 5 years to renovate it as we moved in, then planned a wedding and then started saving all over again! It was worth the wait and every penny. It’s the centre of our home, feels spacious and inviting and is perfect for having dinner parties. Being a detail orientated person, I researched each item we chose meticulously (I love researching!) and that paid off. If you are currently designing a kitchen, my advice would be to invest in a hot tap (game changer), go as big as you can if you have space for an island to maximise storage space, choose an induction hob and get a microwave/oven combi so it’s a daily use microwave but come Christmas it gives you the option for a second oven when you need the space!

Describe your perfect Sunday.
As we live so close to Portballintrae beach and Whitepark Bay, a walk on either of these beaches is hard to beat in the milder weather! Combine that with a roast dinner and some family time; that sounds pretty perfect to me.
